Catherine's Yearly Christmas Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers
Her Royal Highness has organised her customary Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The large audience will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from actors such as award-winning actors.
Focusing on Kindness and Compassion
The central message of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a message before the concert.
A Gradual Return
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Music and Opportunity
Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists supported by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.
Generations Gathering
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Attending the service will be people from various age groups.
That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for local food charities.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
