This January transfer market is always a time of intense rumour and potential big-money transfers. A number of prominent players find themselves connected to moves out of their current clubs. Here is a look at some of the key names who could be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's inability to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, which has left the player in contention, indications are a major transfer is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker possesses a contract with a substantial buy-out clause active for a short window in early January. Latest reports point to Manchester City have emerged as his services. Former suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to other targets, leaving clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

The English defender has continued to excel for Palace despite a summer transfer to Anfield falling through. With his contract set to run out in the summer, this represents the London club's final opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. Numerous elite clubs, including City and several European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to be interested. Yet, a January exit is considered unlikely, especially given the manager's reliance on the player.

B. Johnson

This Welsh winger has found first-team minutes hard to come by at Spurs this term. Although finishing as the side's leading goalscorer last season, Johnson has begun only a small number of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the North London outfit would be open to a transfer for the right price, thought to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an inquiry.

This Portuguese midfielder might be set for a comeback to the Premier League following a period in the Saudi Pro League. The experienced German shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barça following the manager Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a January departure looks highly likely. Aston Villa were once mentioned as a potential suitor, but that option now appears off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the keeper.

This much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has earned parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ side. The teenager is heavily tipped to make a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle United reportedly are leading the chase, but could face strong competition from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at around £22 million.
